Questions regarding the New York Times front page (May 1st): "Universities Grapple with Message of Protests"

Dear Kristal and Sagar, Can you investigate the facts of this article on today's New York Times front page (May 1st): "Universities Grapple with Message of Protests"? I see the usual problem of legacy media not identifying any of the protestors as Jewish. Still, I am concerned that, if the article is otherwise accurate, the protestors are either taking a very aggressive approach to anyone who might disagree with their message even if those students are attending peacefully without intent to cause trouble - or the author of this article is interpreting the incident with the intent to discredit Columbia student protestors. Thank you for all the work you do! Best wishes, GK

Not a question just a comment

Hi guys, I am loving all the attention the show is getting right now! I watch you guys every single week day and Sundays. Krystal, I am super appreciative of the Gaza content because I can’t stay on top of it like you do and it is something that is super important to me. Also I really appreciated today’s interview about Pagan America. I do not agree with the author’s position, but I understand it more and definitely respect it more. Thank you guys for everything! You guys are getting a ton of heat so just wanted you to know we love you and we love the show! And you guys definitely handle the heat well

Genocide

Hi! Love you guys! I appreciate the work you do! Question: we’ve heard Krystal say the word genocide many [many] times. I don’t disagree, but early this week sagaar had a brief tangent where he eluded to the fact that he feels it may have to do more with phraseology and definitions but didn’t get into it at all. I so appreciate both of your perspectives, and aside from the general feeling that Israel is losing the public sentiment battle for sure, I haven’t felt like I’ve gotten a good insight into sagaars feeling about the word and use of genocide for this situation .

What would colleges divesting from Israel mean?

I keep hearing the protestors want their schools to divest from Israel because the money they are sending goes to weapons manufacturing and defense. How do we know this? Is it true these universities are intentionally sending dollars to Israel for that purpose? Or is it a general donation to Israel (I would still find that weird but genuinely trying to understand)

Ranked Choice Voting

Do you think it is a good idea to keep advocating for ranked choice voting when it can result in outcomes like the 2022 Alaska at-large congressional district special election, where the voters clearly wanted a Republican to win but the result was a Democratic victory? These kinds of outcomes are likely to result in banning all alternatives to the primary system if the only alternative that has been tried was arguably worse from the voters' perspective. Kentucky, South Dakota, Idaho, Montana, Tennessee and Florida have already banned RCV state wide. Wouldn't it be better to advocate for something like STAR voting, which is easier to implement and allows voters to better express their preferences, thereby being less likely to result in controversial outcomes?
