Can Ryan ask the State Department about this story? Seems like someone should look into this.

Nicole Shanahan

Thursday's episode Saagar said that Nicole Shanahan has not given an interview yet. This is wrong! She was interviewed by Rick Rubin. That was released a day after she was announced as Kennedy's V. P. Do better research, Saagar!!

MD-5 Congressional Race

Hey all, My partner Andrea Crooms is running for Congress in MD-5 a seat that's been held by Steny Hoyer for longer than I've been alive (incumbent since 1981). I know that y'all don't do much in the way of subnational politics anymore but I thought an interview with Andrea could be really interesting for a few reasons. * Its a great story about the impact of media control in subnational elections, getting any media coverage of the race has been a nightmare and when local media doesn't cover relevant stories like Congressional elections it leaves all of us (and democracy?) worse off. * MD is a Democratic Party machine state, the reaction from the party since Andrea announced running has been astounding, terribly negative and often immoral if not questionably illegal. * Andrea has been endorsed by both Southern Maryland DSA and the Forward Party. * Andrea is an organizer with Southern Maryland DSA and is an outspoken member of MD's Uncommitted Campaign, the campaign released a press release yesterday to relative radio silence in media. * Last night the first Congressional candidate forum for districts 4 and 5 were held, both incumbents Steny Hoyer and Glenn Ivey neglected to attend and present themselves to their constituents. This is a solid example of the trend in national politics of politicians refusing to attend anything from town halls to forums to debates.

Morning Joe finally woke up

What do you guys think of MSNBCs morning Joe FINALLY saying what you all have been saying for 6 months? Obviously it’s great they’re finally saying it … but also completely enraging it took so long and they only became aware of it because of Western aid workers being attacked lol

Ethics of having children

After reading the article "Why Choosing to Have Children Is an Ethical Issue" in the MIT Press, I had a conversation with my partner who mostly agreed with the points brought up in the article. Something in the writing struck me as fundamentally dangerous to the well-being of our nation. While I agree that the choice to have children is a momentous one that should not be taken lightly, that doesn't necessarily make it an issue of morality. However, I found this a very difficult stance to defend and ended up falling back to the old reliable yet questionable "my body, my choice." Where do you guys stand on this debate, and the impact the question may have on the future of child rearing in the US (birth rates, incentives, and the nuclear family)?
