Hi Krystal, Why don't you connect 1) the crash in commercial real estate values to 2) the practice of lenders inflating historical profits to inflate CRE values in CMBS loan sales, so that lender can make a larger loan and more profits when they sell the loan? Its straightforward... Remember your story about a CMBS whistleblower in a ProPublica article? (me:)) and an Intercept story -CRE values fall much further when they were inflated in the first place; -the practice puts upward pressure on rents because rents are increased to make larger debt payments and real profits, causing a lot of the multifamily upward rent pressure, despite poor wages and economies; -the practice affects all CRE not just CMBS CRE, because CMBS competes with all banks and non banks as a CRE debt source
