Questions about the influence of China in the US

I am truly interested in both of your thoughts. There is a company called Tencent, a Chinese multinational technology and entertainment conglomerate and holding company headquartered in Shenzhen. I've been connecting the dots and finding that this company owns and heavily influences a massive number of companies in all sectors like film, video game, music, tech and more with in the US, as well as many other countries. I also know that a few members of our Congress have openly been praising China's ideas and suggesting that we should adopt them. Which makes me believe that there could be lobbying going on in the White House. So the question regarding Tencent. Is this why there's a push to block TikTok and WeChat? Not to stop them "spying" Because that definitely not true, but. Is it to stop them from gaining monopolies within all these companies combined? May peace, love and truth be on the path you walk, Thank you, A Commoner

Singularity in 2023

In the past 12 months, AI models have gone from synergistic (learning from each other) to self-reinforcing. How are we not already "too far" down the parabolic curve of AI self-improvement to prevent AGI (if not the singularity) happening this year? Humans are TERRIBLE at predicting geometric growth. We experience time in a linear fashion, we think linearly. However, the past 12 months alone show we taking very, very steep leaps forward on a geometric trend. This video, out today, explains GPT4's ability for self-reflection. The one that really scares me is toward the end of the video: HuggingGPT using ChatGPT as a "language center" with several other AI models at it's disposal as "the rest of the brain" under the umbrella of "tool use." I just hope it finds us interesting enough to keep as pets. https://youtu.be/5SgJKZLBrmg

From Joseph Rosa: You're on that 'Proverbial slow boat to China ..'

What 3 fiction and 3 non-fiction books would you take with you? And, favorite author/s of both genres?

Day 1 of Bernie Sanders as president

What would a Bernie presidency have looked like had he won in 2020? I think we never would have gotten universal health care done, given congress and the scotus. Same with "free college". So if you agree, then going forward wouldn't a better strategy be to do the things needed to set the stage so we can be successful with health care for all agenda? What are those things? Wouldn't it be a better strategy to target just health care for all first, and when that is done, then look for a next big item, like say college?

For Trump on Trial tomorrow night: Upcoming charges

Do you think that bringing this "smaller" or more minor charge against Trump will embolden other prosecutors to actually take up more serious charges against him (like in Georgia)? Is this a problem of inertia where if someone is willing to actually charge him then others will be more likely to take that step?
